    Finally getting consistency

    Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 07:34 PM [General]

I just wanted to give an update on how I've been bowling this summer.

First, my average is 211.  That is the highest average I've ever had.  I was usually in the low 190's before I quit bowling ten years ago.  I will be the first to admit, that my high average probably has little to do with me.  I'm bowling on a junior-adult league with my daughter, and I'd be willing to bet that they are making the lane conditions easier so everyone will have fun.

The second thing is that I am consistently bowling over 200 now.  When I started bowling again this year, I was having an occasional low game in the 140's, 150's, or 160's.

I'm also very happy with the resin ball that I bought (The Big One by Ebonite).   If I put it outside by the 1st arrow, it rolls out.  But I've been playing inside between the 2nd and 3rd arrows and it does great there.  It skids most of the way down then has a big finish once it hits the dry end of the lane.  For once in my life, I'm not having any problems with ten pins.

    6 weeks in

    Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 08:19 PM [General]

So I'm in the sixth week of a summer league that I joined with my daughter, and the results are still about the same as last month.  I've had two 279 games, but I've also had some games in the 140's.  I'm just as erratic as I feared I would be with a resin ball.

Having said that, I think the ball may not be to blame at all.  I've noticed that I seem to be having some timing problems on the approach.  Some weeks I'm "on" and I have no problems hitting my mark, and other weeks I have a tendency of consistently missing my mark up to 5 boards to the right.

Anyone have any suggestions about my habit of missing my mark to the right and never to the left?
